How We Choose
Vendor-agnostic by design
SCUMTEK has no preferred supplier. We have no reseller agreements, no volume commitments, and no incentive to push one platform over another. Our only obligation is to the outcome: a reliable connection in a difficult environment.
This means we evaluate on merits — latency, power draw, repairability in the field — and we change our recommendation when something better becomes available. We have deployed Starlink next to VSAT terminals and 4G backhaul next to HF radio. The right answer depends on the site.
We also integrate. Most of the interesting problems in remote connectivity are not about any single technology — they are about making several technologies work together reliably, fail gracefully, and hand off cleanly when conditions change.

Low-earth orbit constellations delivering low-latency broadband. Increasingly viable for mobile and temporary deployments.
BGAN / IsatPhone
Inmarsat L-band for voice and low-bandwidth data where portability and reliability matter more than throughput.

Self-healing wireless mesh for last-mile distribution across a site. Scales from a single building to a multi-kilometre compound.
Point-to-point microwave
High-capacity licensed links for backhaul over distances where fibre is impractical and latency matters.

Long-range voice and data over high-frequency radio. Slow, but works when everything else has failed.

We maintain working relationships with the major satellite operators, hardware manufacturers, and network equipment vendors — not as resellers, but as integrators. We know their platforms, their limitations, and their support structures. When something goes wrong at 3am in a difficult timezone, we know who to call.
